I can't believe it's been a little under two months since I last updated so first and foremost, I'll fill you guys in on what's happened since late February.
As you know, in mid-March, I drove all the way down to Indianapolis for Indy Comic Con. Alex (aka turtlestalker
) and their family were nice enough to let me stay at their house while I was there so I didn't have to spend an arm and a leg on a hotel. I don't know if I mentioned it here, but the original plan was that I was going to room with three other people but they all had to cancel because of other responsibilities and I wasn't willing to pay for the entire hotel bill all myself so I'm grateful Alex helped me out with that. Overall, the convention itself was sub-par which is understandable considering it was only its... either 2nd or 3rd year, I think, running. We got a chance to see Bryce Papenbrook at one of his panels but we didn't get a chance to talk to him or get his autograph like at AMKE. I wasn't concerned so much since I had already done both in February but I wanted Alex to at least get to meet him. I think I had more fun hanging out with Alex and their friends and walking around the city more than anything else. I guess when you've been to as many cons as I have, the excitement starts to die down. Monday morning after the con, I drove a bit further northwest and visited Dorie for the day. I wound up sleeping over her house and we videochatted with Robby (RobanCrow
) which was a lot of fun. I left Tuesday morning to go back to Chicago.
The Nightwish concert was this past weekend and Heath slept over at my sister's apartment with me. The place still doesn't have WiFi, which I'm hoping to get done before Robby comes for ACen but we'll see. It's really up to my dad and he tends to procrastinate on those things. I still checked my Tumblr and my email that weekend but I probably ate up a lot of data in the process. The concert itself was great. Delain went on first and Charlotte sounded really good. She sounded the same live as she does in studio recordings. After Delain was Sabaton and then finally Nightwish played. The played a lot of songs from their new album as well as a number of older songs. There were a lot of people at the concert. It was actually uncomfortably crowded. You had to literally push through people if you wanted to get anywhere like to go to the bathroom. Luckily, I got that out of the way before it the large crowd formed. There was a woman behind us in line who had come all the way from Lansing. There were a lot of people from out of state. That's pretty dedicated and here Heath and I just had to walk 30 minutes from the apartment to the concert hall.
So for upcoming events, ACen 2015 is just around the corner. Robby is going to be flying into Chicago the Monday before the con so they can settle in. Like I mentioned earlier, I HOPE I can get WiFi set up by the time they come. I don't think Robby is as antsy as me or Heath when they're without internet (Heath and I get so antsy) so we'll probably be fine. We still have videogames and can maybe do some things out of the house as well to keep us busy. As far as I know, it's only going to be me, Robby, and Alex at the hotel. Originally, Dorie and one of her friends was going to come but now they can't. Darian, a guy I know from Anime Midwest who also likes Radiata Stories says he might join us but he's still unsure. As for my work schedule for the con, I'm working 1-7 on Friday, 9-1 and 4-7 on Saturday, and 9-4 on Sunday. I was hoping I could have gotten all morning shifts but eh, what can you do? I'm still trying to figure out what Robby's going to do Thursday before the con. I know I have to attend a staff meeting and it's probably going to take up a good chunk of the day (last year it did from what I remember). Check-in for the hotel isn't until 3 and Alex isn't planning on coming up until either Friday night or Saturday morning. I want to ask my department if it would be okay with them if Robby tag along despite them not being a part of staff. I'd feel a little bad leaving Robby alone for however long to wait. I don't know. I'm probably just over-complicating everything. :'D
